Gynecologic Oncology Pathology Diagnosis and Challenging Case Discussions Conclude Successfully with the Beijing Maternal and Child Slide-Reading Conference; DNA Methylation Sparks Heated Discussion!
Spring was in the air and academic discourse flourished. On March 29, the Gynecologic Tumor Pathology Diagnosis and Difficult Case Discussion and Beijing Women's and Children's Slide Review Meeting was held as scheduled at Shijingshan Hospital. The meeting was co-hosted by the Women's and Children's Study Group of the Beijing Pathology Society and the Beijing Tumor Precision Pathology Diagnosis Research Association, organized by the Department of Pathology at Shijingshan Hospital, and co-organized by the Shijingshan District Pathology Quality Control Center and Yizhiben Pathology Network. Professor Shi Huaiyin from the First Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital, Professor Zhong Dingrong from China-Japan Friendship Hospital, and Professor Liu Aijun from the Seventh Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital served as conference chairs. Over 50 pathology experts and scholars from major Beijing hospitals attended in person, while the entire meeting was also broadcast live online, with over 4,200 viewings, drawing significant attention from the pathology community.

Conference Chair Professor Shi Huaiyin first delivered a video address, representing the Pathology Branch of the Beijing Medical Association in warmly congratulating the convening of the meeting and thanking Professor Shi Xinlan's team for their active preparation. He stated that personalized treatment of gynecologic tumors cannot be separated from precise pathological diagnosis and classification. In daily practice, borderline ovarian tumors, implants, microinvasion, and other issues are sometimes difficult to judge. Diagnosis of difficult cases requires guidance from experienced experts, and exchanges and collisions among colleagues.

During the conference, Professor Shi Xinlan briefly introduced "Research on the Application of DNA Methylation in Cervical Cancer and Endometrial Cancer." DNA methylation is closely associated with tumor development and progression. Professor Shi Xinlan began with the concept of gene methylation and its association with tumors, then introduced the significance and application scenarios of gene methylation in cervical cancer and endometrial cancer screening.

In her lecture, Professor Shi Xinlan focused on the CISCER® dual-gene methylation detection kit, which was launched in March 2023. The kit was developed through multicenter clinical research led by the Peking Union Medical College Hospital team, having undergone complete Phase I, II, and III clinical trials and a 10,000-person real-world validation study, fully confirming the clinical application prospects of dual-gene methylation. By comparing methylation replacing cytology triage with traditional guideline-based triage methods, the study found that the methylation-based triage approach has the potential to reduce colposcopy referral rates by 28.68% and decrease cervical cancer missed diagnosis rates by 3.33%.
Endometrial cancer (EC) is the second most common gynecologic tumor worldwide. Due to factors including rising prevalence of obesity and diabetes among women, reduced use of menopausal hormone therapy, and changing reproductive behaviors, EC incidence continues to rise with a trend toward younger patients. Endometrial cancer presents significant challenges in early detection and non-invasive screening strategies. CISPOLY's non-invasive CDO1 and CELF4 dual-gene methylation detection product CISENDO® was launched in December 2024, accurately distinguishing endometrial cancer from other uterine cavity conditions with high accuracy and high discriminatory power for endometrial cancer.

Through this Gynecologic Tumor Pathology Diagnosis and Difficult Case Discussion and Beijing Women's and Children's Slide Review Meeting, the Department of Pathology at Shijingshan Hospital enhanced its understanding of gynecologic tumor pathology diagnosis and further strengthened its professional capabilities. The department will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with affiliated hospitals, identify gaps, broaden perspectives, and provide solid technical support for the high-quality development of Shijingshan Hospital, contributing wisdom and strength to precision pathological diagnosis of gynecologic tumors!
